Borrow books, CDs, DVDs, VHS, loaner laptops, whiteboard markers, Smartboard markers, headphones, headphone splitters, and HDMI to VGA adapters.

Find a specific item

  • Search for items in OneSearch. See Help Finding... guides for assistance or Ask a Librarian.
  • Note the call number and locate the item:
    • 3rd floor - books
    • 4th floor - audio/visual & journals (journals are for use in the library only)
  • If you cannot locate an item on the shelves, please ask for assistance at the Information Desk (203-576-4745 or circulat@bridgeport.edu).

Check out items

  • Use your current UB ID to check out items.
  • Check out items at least 15 minutes before closing.
  • Books, CDs, & VHS - Bring to to a Self Checkout Machine or to the Information Desk.
  • DVDs - Bring to the Information Desk.
  • Loaner Laptops, whiteboard markers, Smartboard markers, headphones, headphone splitters, and HDMI to VGA adapters - Request at the Information Desk.

 

  • Loaner Laptops
    • To check out a laptop, you must sign a Laptop Use Agreement every semester.
    • The library will hold onto your UB ID while you use the laptop.
  • Alumni Guest Borrower Card
    • Allow users to borrow books (does not allow access to audio/visual material, computers, or digital resources at the library).
    • Valid for one year.
    • Apply at the Information Desk with a valid photo ID.
    • Cost - Free, but graduation status must be verified with the Registrar
      To apply, submit the online Application for Wahlstrom Library Guest Borrower Card or apply at the Information Desk on the 1st floor of the Library during the Registrar's hours (Mon - Fri, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm) so that the Library staff can verify your graduation immediately.
  • Community Guest Borrower Card
    • Allow users to borrow books (does not allow access to audio/visual material, computers, or digital resources at the library).
    • Valid for one year.
    • Apply at the Information Desk with a valid photo ID.
    • Cost - $25 per year
      To apply, submit the online Application for Wahlstrom Library Guest Borrower Card or apply at the Information Desk on the 1st floor of the Library.

Place a hold

  • If an item is currently checked out, you can place a hold for it using OneSearch.
  • Find the item in OneSearch and click 'Holdings List' under the search result for that item.
  • Click 'Go' next to 'Select a Request: Hold.'
  • Change the 'Not Needed After' date, if applicable. Click 'Submit Form.'
  • You will be notified when the item is ready for you to pick up at the Information Desk for 7 days.

Borrowing periods

For UB students

  • Can borrow 20 items at a time
  • Books & CDs - 30 day borrowing period
  • DVDs & VHS - 7 day borrowing period
  • Laptops, whiteboard markers, Smartboard markers, headphones, headphone splitters, and HDMI to VGA adapters - 4 hour borrowing period, only for use in the library

For guest borrowers

  • Books - 3 books at a time, 30 day borrowing period (no online renewals - must return books to the Information Desk to renew)

Renew items

  • Books - Can be renewed once online at your library account page on the library's website as long as there are no holds placed on the item, the item is not overdue, and you owe less than $5.00 in Library fines/fees. Click 'My Account' and renew items.
  • Laptops - Cannot be renewed. Laptops must be returned within 4 hours. You may check out a new laptop for an additional 4 hours if you would like to continue using a laptop.

Return items

  • Items can be returned to the Information Desk any time when the library is open.
  • A Library Book Drop is also available to the right of the entrance to the Wahlstrom Library building.

Overdue fines & fees

  • Books & CDs - 10 cents per day
  • DVDs & VHS - $1.00 per day
  • 1 day or 1 week reserve items - $3.00 per day
  • 2 or 4 hour reserve items - 2 cents per minute
  • Laptops - 25 cents per minute
  • If an item is recalled, it is needed for a class; the overdue fine is $1.00 per day for books and CDs, and $2.00 for DVDs and VHS.
  • Library items that have not been returned 56 days (8 weeks) after the due date will be considered lost and a bill will be generated for the replacement cost and a processing fee.
  • Long outstanding fines and fees are collected by the University Bursar. Transcripts and grades will remain unavailable while these are unpaid.
  • If 10 or more items are overdue, or $5.00 or more is owed, all library borrowing privileges will be blocked.
